I'm Dr. Beth Montgomery, a New England based Christian Psychologist and founder of New Birth Counseling Center. I have two modes in which to offer help to you: counseling locally, or counseling from a distance. For certain problems or for long term counseling, we need to be able to meet regularly on a face-face basis. Yet, even if you live out of driving range, I can still help identify your problems or obstacles and give you tools to greatly improve your life situation!
Using Scriptural counseling combined with cognitive therapy, I help you understand why you feel the way you do and empower you to take control.
Most people need some form of help at different points in their lives. Face to face counseling is the traditional method of getting assistance, and the one I most prefer. Yet, internet video counseling provides some similar services but with the added advantage of being fast as well as at your convenience. You'll start by choosing a counseling service and filling out the internet Counseling Request form. Then if I determine I am able to aid you through distance counseling, you will receive some detailed questions that help will help me help you! ![]()
How does email or internet counseling work and how do I begin?
In counseling we will:
a. Clarify the problem, which can go a long way towards finding the answer.
b. I will give you personalized advice as well as exercises to get you thinking and to start changing any destructive behaviors and thoughts.
c. You will receive suggestions or tools to help you know where to go from here.

How is the communication confidential and private?
NewBirthCounseling.org uses the ethical guidelines of the American Psychological Association to maintain the strictest confidentiality.
I am also a member in good standing of The Association of Biblical Counselors and The American Association of Christian Counselors. New Birth Counseling adheres to their guidelines.
Personal information is never given to other parties. The only exception is when there is a danger to self or others, as is true in any case where you see a therapist.
For distance counseling, you will need access to high speed internet and a graphics card that enables you to run video. To begin, I will need your name, email address and your situation. We will follow up with some detailed questions and video counseling sessions. Within the limitations of security inherent in video and e-mail communication, internet counseling is very confidential. We will use a video chat to meet weekly. Facial and body expressions are very important, and will help us communicate much more efficiently and personally.

While there are many benefits of internet counseling, it is not appropriate for everyone and cannot replace existing therapy or medical treatments. New Birth Counseling will determine if your situation is appropriate for distance counseling and has the right to refuse counsel. In the case that your situation is not accepted, New Birth will try to help you find an appropriate counselor in your locality. Internet counseling does not allow for interpretation of full body language, and some other forms of non-verbal communication that are a part of traditional therapy. Typically in the video sessions, I will only be able to see your face. Long term care needs to be with a doctor in your locality. There may be technical difficulties, which may delay responses.
New Birth Counseling CAN NOT help you if:
a. If this is an emergency, if you feel suicidal, homicidal, or like you want to hurt yourself of someone else, IMMEDIATELY call 911 or your doctor, or go to the nearest emergency room!
b. If you have any psychotic symptoms (hallucinations, delusions, thought disorganization).
c. If you need intense support, phone contact, hospitalization.
d. If you are addicted to drugs or alcohol or if you have a psychiatric illness.
e. If you need a medical diagnosis or a prescription.

When is internet counseling a good choice?
Internet counseling is a good choice for people who have difficulty getting to a counselor, are simply trying to get "unstuck", desire counsel in an important decision, have a busy schedule, who are uncomfortable or initially anxious about face to face counseling, or just prefer video and e-mail as a convenient and relaxed mode of communication.
Again, New Birth Counseling will determine if your situation is appropriate for distance counseling and has the right to refuse counsel. In the case that your situation is not accepted, New Birth will try to help you find an appropriate counselor in your locality.
